Recently, six state officers embarked on a journey through southern Idaho, gaining hands-on experience across Simplot鈥檚 operations.

The week-long tour, held July 28鈥31, offered a firsthand look at Simplot鈥檚 鈥淢ine to Plate鈥 story. The experience was designed to deepen the attendees鈥 understanding of agriculture, innovation, and leadership.

 

Day 1: Digging into the Roots

The tour kicked off with a visit to Smoky Canyon Mine in Afton, Wyoming. Led by Simplot Public Affairs Manager Andrea Gumm, the FFA officers explored Simplot鈥檚 mining operations that provide essential nutrients for agricultural production.

 

Day 2: Innovation in Action

Tuesday began with a tour of the Don Plant in Pocatello, again guided by Gumm. Our guests witnessed how mined materials are transformed into fertilizers that support global food production.”

In the afternoon, Mountain West Regional Operations Manager Jordan Hart welcomed the group to the in Rupert, Idaho. This brand-new site showcased the future of agricultural retail and technology, highlighting Simplot鈥檚 commitment to supporting growers with cutting-edge solutions.

 

Day 3: Science Meets Leadership

Wednesday鈥檚 agenda brought the officers to Simplot Plant Sciences in Boise, where they explored the world of biotechnology and its role in shaping modern agriculture.

The group then toured the Simplot Global Headquarters, where they learned about the Company鈥檚 history鈥攊ncluding the story of Molly the Mule鈥攁nd participated in a sensory testing experience led by Simplot Sensory Technician Lou Silva. Lunch was hosted by James Alderman, Simplot鈥檚 General Counsel and an FFA alumnus, who shared his career journey and insights on the future of agriculture.

Later that day, the officers traveled to Caldwell for a visit to the Idaho Plant and tour of the campus. From field to fry, they saw the full lifecycle of Simplot鈥檚 iconic potato products鈥攁nd sampled plenty along the way.

The day concluded with a stop at Simplot Western Stockmen鈥檚 (SWS), where the group toured the store and mill and learned about feed products.

 

Day 4: From Pasture to Lab

On Thursday guests visited and Simplot Animal Sciences in Kuna, Idaho. Animal Sciences Senior Sales Marketing Manager Jeremy Howard and his team guided them through the beef processing steps and into the labs, where they learned about Simplot鈥檚 animal science innovations.

This immersive tour gave Idaho鈥檚 FFA leaders a comprehensive look at Simplot鈥檚 role in agriculture鈥攆rom resource extraction to biotechnology, food processing, and animal science. It was a week of learning, inspiration, and connection that will shape the attendees鈥 leadership journeys for years to come, and our Company was proud to play a part.
